HumanLight Social Gathering & Dinner-2014

We are pleased to announce that we will be having Eric Thomas, president of Humanist Canada, speak to our gathering on 'Why wine is the reason for the season' and why these social gatherings are important for our secular community.

HPHC will sponsor finger foods.  The restaurant will have a special dinner menu and cash bar available.  We are looking forward to connecting with other local secular organizations as well.

Tree of Knowledge 2011

KevinThe Halton-Peel Humanist Community held its annual "Tree of Knowledge" celebration last night in Mississauga, highlighting the fact that holiday celebrations aren't only about religion. Numerous cultures through the centuries have celebrated the winter solstice, when the days begin to grow longer again as we get more sunlight "During the winter holiday season, where the word holiday has taken on a more secular meaning, many events are observed," said local Humanist Community spokesman Kevin Saldanha. "This tradition of celebrations, however, is grounded in supernatural religious beliefs that many people in modern society cannot accept."

Religion should be a source of peace, not terror.

That was the general consensus at the conclusion of last week’s Interfaith Symposium hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community at the Milton Centre for the Arts.

“I am not denying that religious people are fighting but the reasons are not religious,” stated Muhammad Afzal Mirza during the presentation, which sought to answer the question ‘Religion: A Source of Terror or Peace?’
